gartner’s maps are not only about car numbers and trip length. They’re about the different stops you can get to. This is very different from a traffic report in that it’s about the types of stops you can get to. For example, a map which shows a lot of major stops might show “L” stop on it, whereas a map which shows a lot of local stops might show a “S” stop on it.
